The story of the Rolex Explorer began in the early 1950s when early versions of the watch were worn during the Everest expedition. Since then, the Explorer has remained a constant presence in the Rolex catalog.
Today, we are excited to offer a rare early matte dial variation, reference 1016, nicknamed the "Frog Foot" variation. The coronet on these dials resembles a frog's footprint, making them highly sought after. This particular piece is even more desirable and rare due to its "Fat Lume," where the lume appears puffy, giving the dial a unique and distinctive appearance compared to other Explorer 1016 dials—very cool indeed! The case remains robust, with thick lugs, and the riveted Oyster bracelet is in nice condition, featuring 58 end links and a clasp stamped 1 68.
The watch has been fully checked and regulated by our watchmaker.
